It was relatively simple to use but there were a few features I knew I would have liked. I had originally downloaded the trial version of Dashware a few months ago. So I made a decision and bought RaceRender. Three Laps of High Plains Raceway - Byers, Colorado Timing bar - leveraged from one of the Dashware included gauge configurations.Combined throttle position (green) & brake application (red).Gear selection (white digit near shifter).Friction Circle G-force graph (right instrument pod). The Youtube videos below show what can be done with Dashware. I can see that it might be fun to have pix-in-pix capabilities, however that is something I would only use perhaps once per year. After a significant amount of photo editing to create an instrument panel without needles and transparent background needle images, I have a fully animated Cayman instrument panel that Dashware will overlay on top of the in-car video. Shortly after purchasing Dashware, I took some high resolution photos of my Cayman instrument panel. One of the best aspects of Dashware is the ability to create your own custom gauges. L8Apx thinks I've been a good this year, I might be using a GoPro Hero HD2 next season instead of the Chasecam/Sony combination. Throughout that time I have used a Sony Camcorder with external A/V inputs with a Chasecam camera for video, and a Traqmate for data acquisition. I have been using Dashware for a few years and really like it. Won't be using the data logger on the track until the spring so trying to decide which video/data acquisition program is best in the meantime.ĭunebasher sent me a PM asking me to weigh in on this thread. No screens to get distracted with and prevents the temptation of trying to beat the previous lap time. I like this setup as it is simply turn both devices on and drive. RaceRender is a few bucks cheaper, but they are both relatively inexpensive at less than $50.īTW, for DE and autocross events I am using a GoPro HD and a newly acquired Qstarz BT-Q1000eX GPS "lap timer" (really a data logger as it does not have a screen of any kind). The main features that RaceRender has and Dashware doesn't that I think would be useful/nice to have are picture-in-picture, camera switching, and the ability to rotate the video (for those times when I forget that the GoPro is in upside down mode ). Dashware seems easier to use but has less features. I downloaded the free trial of both and messed around with each. I am trying to decide between purchasing Dashware or RaceRender.Īnyone have experience with either program? Recommendations?
